Early in the morning, I take a local train from Matsumoto Station on the JR Chuo East Line and arrive at Otsuki Station.  This is the fourth trip of Seishun 18 Ticket.  If you look at the direction of Kofu Station from kosenkyo bridge at Otsuki Station, there is the Fuji Kyuko Line on the left.  Otsuki Station has passed many times when I go to Tokyo, but this is my first time to get off.
朝早い中央東線の松本駅発立川駅行きの普通列車に乗って大月駅へ。青春18切符の４回目の旅である。大月駅の連絡橋から下り方面を望むと左に富士急行線が見える。大月駅は東京へ行く際に幾度となく通っているが、今回初めて降り立つ。

大月駅では30分ほどの待ち時間があるので一旦外に出る。JR大月駅と富士急行大月駅は隣接しているが、構内で乗り継ぐことも可能だ。JR大月駅の北東には岩殿山＝標高634㍍が見える（写真）。荒々しい岩肌が特長的だ。かつてここには小山田家の城があり、武田軍の国境警備の要を担っていた。しかし天正10年（1582）織田軍が甲斐に攻め入ると、小山田信茂は織田家に寝返り、逃げ落ちる武田勝頼を郡内に入れず自害させた。しかし織田軍は信茂が主君を裏切ったのを許さず結局処刑されてしまう。

There are two Fuji Kyuko Lines, the Otsuki Line between Otsuki Station and Fujisan Station, and the Kawaguchiko Line between Fujisan Station and Kawaguchiko Station.  However, since all vehicles go from Otsuki Station = altitude 358 meters = to Kawaguchiko Station = altitude 857 meters =, there is virtually one Fujikyuko Line.  With a total length of 26.6 km, the slope is steep enough to switch back at Fujisan Station.
富士急行は正式には大月駅－富士山駅（旧富士吉田駅）の大月線と富士山駅－河口湖駅の河口湖線の２路線であるが、全ての車両が大月駅＝標高358㍍から河口湖駅＝標高857㍍まで乗り入れているため、事実上富士急行線の１路線となっている。延長26.6㎞富士山駅からはスイッチバックするほど勾配が急な路線である。

The Faith and arts that make up Mt. Fuji were registered as a World Heritage Site in June this year.  The joy is expressed on billboards celebrating registration in various places in the town.  Of course, Fuji Kyuko's vehicles also have such a head mark.

The station staff tells me that the number of foreigners not only Asian but also Westerners has increased due to the influence of World Heritage Sites.  Certainly, there are many blonde foreigners at the station, and station staff guide them in fluent English.  It is not only overseas that japanese young people are required to have language skills.

世界遺産登録の効果からアジア系の外国人に交じって欧米人の観光客の姿も多いと駅員が話してくれる。確かに構内には金髪の外国人も多く見られ、駅員は流ちょうな英語で外国人の問い合わせに答えている。日本の若者に語学力が求められているのはもはや海外での話ではない。

Arriving at the platform was the limited express "Azusa". No, it is an old Azusa's vehicle.  Involuntarily I feel nostalgic.  I was surprised to get on the old limited express Azusa on the Fuji Kyuko Line.  I am half as impressed and half surprised.
入線して来たのは何と特急あずさ。いや昔のあずさの183系である。思わず懐かしさに包まれる。まさか富士急に乗車するのに昔の特急あずさに乗るとは思ってもいなかった。感激半分、驚き半分で乗車する。

I get off at Gekkoji Station before one of Fujisan Station.  The platform is decorated with two pale colors, and it has an atmosphere that is not so much in Japan.  Since it is a station close to Fuji Gakuen High School, the station staff may have devised it so that it would be liked by young people.
富士山駅の一つ前の月江寺駅で下車。ホームに立つと２色の中間色に彩られた日本の駅舎にない雰囲気だ。富士学苑高校の最寄り駅なので、若い高校生に好まれるように意識しているのかもしれない。
