About 1500 Sakura trees are planted at The Takato Castle ruins park. Mt. Yoshino in Nara, Hirosaki Castle ruins park in Aomori, it is said to be Three famous places of Sakura in Japan.  In the middle of April, when the Sakura are in the best season, a lot of tourists come by car, and the surrounding roads get congested.  Takato Kohigan Sakura has small flowers but strong red color. When it is in full bloom, only this little mountain is colored cherry.

高遠城址公園内には約1500本もの桜が植えられ、奈良の吉野山、弘前城址公園とともに桜の三大名所とされている。見頃の４月中旬には、大勢の観光客が車で押し寄せ周辺の道は混雑する。高遠コヒガンザクラは、花の形がやや小ぶりだが、赤みを帯びているので、満開時この丘だけが薄紅色に染まる小さな山になる。
