Looking at the sunset along the Sea of Japan, I wanted to ride on a bicycle, and I left Matsumoto on impulsive.  For that reason, I loaded a folding bicycle on the car this time.  "Niigata Island" is a huge triangular island surrounded by the Sea of Japan, the Shinanogawa River and the Sekiya Waterway.  The circumference is about 15 kilometers. 
日本海沿いに沈む夕日を眺めながら走りたくなって、衝動的に松本を発つことにした。そんな訳で今回は車に折りたたみ自転車を積み込んだ。新潟島とは、日本海と信濃川、そして関屋分水路に囲まれた巨大な三角形の島を示す。外周は約15㎞。

I parked my car in a parking lot near Niigata Station, and ran through the city of dusk approaches on a bicycle and headed towards the Shinanogawa River.  The sidewalk on the street in front of the station can be run by bicycle.

新潟駅近くの駐車場に車を停め、自転車を組み立て、夕暮れ迫るまちを抜け信濃川方面に漕ぎ出す。駅前通りの歩道は、自転車走行が可能になっている。

This time, I ride my bicycle counterclockwise. The seaside scene spreads quickly, the sea breeze and the sound are comfortable and stimulate my five senses.  It is unleashed from the tension of a long-distance drive, and it gets pleasant feeling.  On a straight cycling road, sometimes it is on dusk on Sunday, there are many people who enjoy jogging and cycling.

今回は、起点から反時計周りに進むことにする。すぐに海辺の景色が広がり、潮風と波音が心地よく五感を刺激する。長距離ドライブの緊張から解き放たれ、快適な気分に浸る。真っ直ぐ伸びるサイクリングロードには、日曜日の夕暮れにということもあり、ジョギングやサイクリングを楽しむ人たちの姿が何人も見られる。

See the west entrance of ' Niigata Minato Tunnel = total length 1423 meters ' connecting basements of both sides of the Shinanogawa River estuary (photo).  There is a sidewalk in the tunnel, and it is possible to run a bicycle.  If you proceed as it is, you will arrive at Niigata Airport, however Cycling road which goes around Niigata Island is the opposite side of the tunnel is the starting point.

There are many blogs that introduce that the sunset seen from the Hiyoriyama Observatory is the most beautiful in Niigata.  From the observatory, you can see not only the sea of Japan but also the urban area of Niigata.
日和山（ひよりやま）展望台から見る夕日を新潟一の見晴らしと紹介するブログは多い。展望台からは日本海だけでなく新潟の市街地も望める。

Small yellow flowers are blooming at feet.  Although the name is unknown, in addition, several kinds of coastal plants were seen.  People who like flowers can see natural plant books, cycling is also fun.
足元には、小さい黄色い花が咲いている。名前はわからないが、他にも、何種類かの海岸植物が確認できた。花の好きな人は、自然の植物図鑑を巡るポタも楽しいかもしれない。 

The West Coast Park stretches from the Hiyoriyama Coast to the Kinei-Cho Coast, a long and slender length of about 5 kilometers.  Many Pines planted in the park are separated from urban areas and serve as windbreak forests that block the sea breeze.  Is it so strong wind act that blows up from the Sea of Japan in winter ?  Pine trees are bent.
西海岸公園は、日和山海岸から金衛町海岸まで、全長約５㎞にわたって細長く延びている。園内に植えられたクロマツが市街地と隔て海風をさえぎる防風林の役目を担う。冬の日本海から吹き上げる強い風の仕業だろうか、そのマツの形が曲がってしまっている。
