In the northern part of Lake Nojiri, a way of the uphills and downs spreads out in Konara oak forest.  From the forest, the water surface of the lake will be visible and hidden.  Suddenly, the field of vision opens, Lake Nojiri spreads in front of you (Photo).  In the back of a small island called "Biwa Island", Mt.Kurohime = altitude 2053 meters can be seen.  Unfortunately, the mountains are hazy, however once I saw this landscape.  Biwa Island is named after a musical instrument resembling "an biwa", and a shrine is enshrined on the island.  Just a sightseeing ship is changing the course to island.
野尻湖北部は、コナラ林の中、アップダウンの道が続く。その木立の中から水面が左手に見え隠れする。突然、視界が開け、野尻湖が眼下に広がる（写真）。琵琶島と呼ばれる小さな島越しに黒姫山=標高2053㍍が聳える。残念ながら、山は霞んでいるが、この風景は見たことがあるアングルだ。琵琶島は楽器の琵琶に似ていることから名付けられた小さな島で、宇賀神社が祭られている。ちょうど観光船が上陸しようと針路を変えている。

The western part of Lake Nojiri has many leisure facilities, and every summer season is busy anywhere.  Meanwhile, there is an old water gate to divide the lively shore (photo).  This is the pumping port and intake port of Japan's first pumped-storage power plant established in 1934.  The pumped-storage power is the efficient hydroelectric power generation that pumps up the downstream water and water it again.  The jurisdiction is Tohoku Electric power.  Such a great facility is in this Lake Nojiri.
野尻湖の西部はレジャー施設が多く、このシーズンどこも忙しそうだ。そんな中、華やかな岸辺を分断するように古い水門がある（写真）。これは、昭和９年（1934）設置された日本初の揚水発電所の揚水口と取水口。揚水発電とは、下流の水をポンプで汲み上げ、再び流すことで効率的で安定した水力発電を促す仕組み指す。管轄はなんと東北電力。そんな凄い設備がこの野尻湖にある。 

Break at the park next to the Nojirigawa River.  I came to here in 3/4 circuit of Lake Nojiri, just one hour 40 minutes.  I took pictures and came slowly while resting, however still it is still early to lunch.   I intended to have lunch on the terrace of the waterside, however decide to go to Kurohime Station, and to eat.
野尻川横の公園で小休止。野尻湖一周のほぼ3/4、ちょうど１時間40分でここまで来た。写真を撮り、休みながらの行程なので、ゆっくり来たが、それでも食事の時間にはまだ早い。水辺のレストランのテラスで昼食をと考えていたが、黒姫駅に行ってからにしようと再び漕ぎ出す。 

The South West coast of the lake is called "Kamiyama International Village", and it is a member system resort area for the foreigner.   Taisho from the early Showa era, started by a Canadian missionary, and now is a summer vacation resort.  Unlike Japan that gives priority to convenience and entertainment, the idea of a Western-style resort that spends vacation in nature is established.  There are many foreigners who enjoy bathing in the lake, riding on boats, drawing pictures, and so on.
湖の南西岸は神山国際村と呼ばれ、外国人を中心とした会員制のリゾートエリアになっている。大正から昭和初期にカナダ人宣教師によって、別荘地として開村したのが始まりとされ、夏休みを過ごす避暑地になっている。利便性や娯楽性を優先する日本型リゾートと異なり、自然に溶け込み、ゆったり休暇を過ごす欧米型の考え方がこの地域の存在価値を高めている。この日も湖水浴を楽しんだり、ボートに乗ったり、絵を描いたり、思い思いに過ごす外国人の姿が多く見られる。 

On The bulletin board at the entrance of the swimming pool, leaflets written in English such as a guide calling for Participation in the event or recruitment of part-time jobs is affixed.  The leaflets asking for babysitters feel very foreign.
遊泳場の入り口にある掲示板にはイベントへの参加を呼びかける案内やアルバイトの募集など英語で書かれたビラが貼られている。ベビーシッターを求めるチラシが外国らしい。 

On The lake side there are foreigners who spread notebook computer.  There are several people on the terrace of the restaurant where the LAN is connected.  Western businessmen have an image of taking a long vacation, but as the internet gets more widespread, work is also followed in the summer resort.
湖畔では、ノートパソコンを広げる外国人の姿がある。回線が繋がっていると思われるレストランのテラスにも、そうした複数の人たちが集まっている。欧米のビジネスマンたちは長い休みをとるイメージがあるが、インターネットの広まりとともに避暑地にも仕事が追ってくる。
