In Nagano Prefecture, Lake Nojiri has a large area second to Jake Suwa.  The altitude is 654 meters.  Lake Nojiri turns the color of blue, spring in summer, sapphire in fall, and dark blue in winter, Lake Nojiri is often called Fuyo Lake because it has been many capes and coves, similar to Furong's leaves.  In the Taisho era (1912-1926), Villa land development by foreign missionaries, in recent years fossil of the Nauman elephant was discovered and gained attention.

長野県では諏訪湖に次ぐ広さの野尻湖。標高は654㍍。春はブルー、夏はエメラルド、秋はサファイア、冬はダークブルーと湖水の色を変える野尻湖は、岬や入り江が多く、芙蓉の葉に似ていることから芙蓉湖とも呼ばれている。大正時代から外国人宣教師による別荘地開発で、戦後はナウマン象の化石が発見されて注目された。

そんな野尻湖はトライアスロン競技が開催されることでも有名になった。自転車種目は一周15.3㎞、アップダウンが激しいコースを３周する。そんなコースを一度は走ってみたいという思いが募るのは当然だ。（写真／周遊ルートに設置されている距離を示すビルボード） 

We head from Furuma Station = altitude of 633 meters.to Lake Nojiri (photo left).  Leave the station, go up the Prefectural route north, go up the straight road in the country gently.  After going past the nursery and entering a tall forest it will be a full-fledged uphill.

野尻湖へは古間駅＝標高633㍍からアプローチする（写真左）。駅前から出発し県道を北上。田園の中の真っ直ぐな道を緩やかに上って行く。保育所の隣を過ぎ、背の高い林の中に突入すると本格的な上りになる。覚悟を決めペダルを漕ぐ足に力を込める。

The southeastern part of a route around the Lake Nojiri is separated from the lake and it looks like a forest course. The triathlon competition is around the clock circumference, however on the contrary, I turn around the lake. As the uphill continues for a while, it suddenly goes down, ups and downs are intense, and the burden to the leg is large. However, the road in the forest is cool and does not sweat a lot.  
野尻湖周遊ルートの南東部は、湖面と離れていてまるで林間コースのようだ。トライアスロン競技は時計周りのようだが、湖を回る原則の、反時計周りを選択し漕ぎ始める。しばらく上り坂が続くと思うと、突然下りになったり、そのまま水平に進むかと思うと、またアップダウンがあり脚への負担が大きい。しかし、木漏れ日の中の道は涼しく、極端に汗をかくことはない。 

The sound of the motor board echoed in the forest all the time, however at last the Lake Nojiri can be seen from across the forest.  It was far from the lake surface and at a higher position than I imagined.
モーターボードの音が、ずっと林の中に響いていたが、ようやく野尻湖の姿が木立の間から望める。想像していたより湖面より遠く、そして高い位置にいる。 

Downhill is comfortable with speed.  It is enveloped by the wind at once, and the sun shines dazzling in the forest.  When I listen carefully, the cicadas ' echoes are echoing.  Grasp the grip strongly and I use all the five senses.
下りはスピードが出て気持ちがいい。とたんに風に包まれ、日向と日影の間で、太陽光が眩しく点滅する。耳を澄ますと、せみの声が残響になって、こだましている。グリップを握る手にも思わず力が入り、加速とともに五感をフルに使っていることを意識する。 

After passing the Teragasaki district you can see the tip of the northeastern part of Lake Nojiri. (photo)  When I descend to a small cove, there is one quiet hotel quietly.  After a while walking along the lake, there is an angler of lower a fishing line on the boat.
寺ヶ崎を過ぎると、野尻湖北東部の先端が見えてくる。小さな入り江まで下ると一軒のゾートホテルが静かに佇んでいる。しばらく湖畔沿いに進むとプレージャーボートの上から糸を垂れる釣り人の姿がある。 

When it enters the northern part of Lake Nojiri, it becomes a steep uphill again.  The power runs out, and it gets off the bicycle many times, however it reaches somehow.  I got off the bike and prepared breathing, I found a flower about 1 cm in diameter at the roadside.  Blue male stamens are mysterious in white petals.  Although it is a small flower, it is pretty, it has a very strong presence.
野尻湖北部に入ると再び急な上り坂になる。力尽き何度となく自転車を降りるが、ようやく上り切る。自転車を止め呼吸を整えていると、道端に直径１㎝ほどのゲンノショウコを発見した。白い花びらに青い雄しべが神秘的だ。小さい花だが可憐で、一際存在感を放っている。
