Pottering of a bicycle in Usui Pass. Vol.4

I will head east on Prefectural Route 47 and aim for Tomioka City.  It is a flat road parallel to the Takada River.  The wind was a little headwind, but since it was going downhill until now, so I can ride my bicycle smoothly without tired legs.

This time, I have taken time at Usui Pass, so I will cancel the tour of tomioka silk mill(photo).  Well, I've visited it before, so I stopped it, but as an industrial heritage of Japan, it's a place I'd love to see.  The building was designed by the French and was built in 1871.  The bricks on the surface may have been made in Fukaya City, Saitama Prefecture, which is the same as the Megane Bridge.
* After that, it was registered as a World Heritage Site in 2014.

Joshin Electric Railway Joshin Line's Joshu Tomioka Station ( photo left ).  This station building was built in 1970, and it seems that a design competition for a new station building is currently being held.  It was not the Joshin Electric Railway, however the Gunma prefecture's organizer, and you can feel the enthusiasm of the town aiming for a World Heritage Site.

Joshin Electric Railway is a "cycle train" that allows you to bring your bicycle directly to the train without having to store it in a bag.  However, contact is required in advance and there are only a limited number of stations where you can board.  Because of the free-spirited trip, I went to the station without deciding the time and the station to get on, but the station staff said that I needed to make a reservation.  I tried to put the bicycle in the bag, the station staff called the headquarters and allowed it.  This time it was special, so you'd better make a reservation to use it.  (The photo shows the train coming into the platform. Bring BD-1 directly to the train.)

Place the bicycle at the back of the vehicle.  It's a space to put my luggage, but I'm tired because I have to hold down my bicycle.  It is a cycle train, but it is at the time of the event that the bicycle can be brought to the seat, and it seems to put it in the space of luggage like this usually.

Joshin Electric Railway Takasaki Station is in the same location as the JR Line, however the ticket gates are separate.  Walking with a bicycle on the platform is a pretty pleasant experience.  I feel like I'm at a train station in Europe.   Because there is no stairs, it is able to go outside as it is.  Immediately put the bicycle in the bag and transfer to the JR line, but the ticket gate of the Shinkansen is far and I had to walk a long passage.

The Nagano Shinkansen "Asama" has inherited the name of the once limited express train.  Currently, Shinkansen E2 system vehicles are running on a slope of about 30% of Usui Pass.  After leaving Takasaki Station, it takes only 12 minutes to the next Karuizawa Station. It is not comparable to the old days.  We got the speed, but what was lost ?  I close my eyes while thinking about the history of Usui Pass, however the Shinkansen is accelerating more and more.
