I check out early in the morning and go to Kuji Station, but the morning sun is beautiful.  I take pictures with the iron bridge of the Sanriku Railway in the background, but I hope that those affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake will have hope.

早朝にチェックアウトをし久慈駅に向かうが、朝日が昇ってくるので少し遠回りをする。三陸鉄道の鉄橋のバックに写真に収めるが、東日本大震災で被災された方が、明るい希望を抱けるように願いを込める。


As the station staff said yesterday, there is no one at the ticket gate.  I go to the platform, but there is no train figure yet.  I will wait at the connecting bridge for the Sanriku Railway vehicles to arrive.  It's early in the morning, but locals are waiting for the train on the platform.
昨日、駅員が言っていたように改札口には誰もいない。ホームまで行くが列車はまだ入線していない。三陸鉄道の車両が入線してくるのを連絡橋から待ち受ける。まだ朝早いのに、もう地元の方がホームで列車を待っている。




The train for Tanohata Station arrives at the platform.  It is a two-train train, but the back vehicle is a train vehicle that does not carry passengers.  The train operator announces that you should not ride in the vehicle behind you.
田野畑駅行きの車両が入線する。2両編成となっているが、後ろの車両は回送列車。乗車しないよう運転士からアナウンスがある。


There are three locals in the first train.  One man seems to be returning to work from his hometown.  There are three tourists, and surprisingly many are on the train.  I am surprised that a beverage vending machine (photo Right) was installed inside the train.
始発の車内には地元の人が3人。帰省から仕事先へ戻ると思われる男性が1人。観光客が3人と意外に多くの人が乗っている。車内には飲料の自動販売機が設置されていて(写真右奥)驚く。


Arrived at Tanohata Station.  There are few private houses around Tanohata Station, but there is a residential area on the mountain.  Perhaps because of that, there are many passengers and the station building is a large and splendid building.  At the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake, the station building at an altitude of about 20 meters was not damaged even though the tsunami struck nearby.

田野畑駅に到着。田野畑駅の周辺には民家は少ないが山の上には住宅街がある。そのため乗降客は多く駅舎は立派な造りになっている。標高20㍍ほどに位置する駅舎は東日本大震災の際、津波が寸前で止まり難を逃れた。


The Northern Iwate Transportation Bus is waiting at Tanohata Station.  It operates to and from Komoto Station as a bus on behalf of the train.  It takes about 30 minutes to get to Komoto Station, so it will be difficult for students to go to school.  I was worried if I could load a bicycle, but the friendly driver would admit it.
田野畑駅には岩手県北バスが待機している。代行バスとして小本駅間に運行されている。小本駅までは約30分ほど掛かるので通学している生徒にとっては大変だろう。自転車を載せてくれるかどうか心配したが、無口だが優しそうな運転手は側面の荷物室に自転車を黙って載せてくれる。


Arrived at Komoto Station.  The train just arrives at the elevated platform (Photo Right above).  The square in front of the station is large, and it is a time zone for commuting to work and school, so buses gather from all over the place.  I bought a ticket to Miyako Station and climbed the stairs from inside the tourist center on the platform.

小本駅に到着する。高架上のホームにちょうど列車も入線してくる(写真右上)。駅前広場は結構広く、通勤・通学の時間帯なので各地からバスが集結してくる。窓口で宮古駅までの切符を購入し、ホームには小本観光センターの中から階段を登る。


From Omoto Station, take the Sanriku Railway Kita-Rias Line again toward Miyako Station and head south.  It will take another 30 minutes to reach the target Miyako Station.  Perhaps it is a supplementary lesson for summer vacation, a local high school student is on board.  If you think about it, their learning environment has changed a lot.  Some students may not have given up on going on to higher education. There was also a message at Tanohata Station, however I hope that even if it is painful, I want you to move forward bravely.

小本駅から再び三陸鉄道北リアス線で宮古駅をめざし南下する。目的の宮古駅までは小本駅からさらに30分ほど。夏休みの補習だろうか、地元の高校生が乗車する。思えば彼らの学習環境は大きく変わった。進学を諦めざるを得なかった生徒もいることだろう。田野畑駅にあったメッセージではないが、逆境を跳ね除け果敢に前に進んでほしいものである。

Pottering report of a bicycle in Japan

I carry a bicycle by train, bus,airplane with me. This is called “Rinko” in Japanese. I would like to introduce various places in Japan starting from Matsumoto City while hanging around by bicycle.
