Pottering of a bicycle in CHIBA & MITO. Vol.1

For this time, I decided to head to Chiba from the house of a friend living in Omiya city.  There are two cycling roads along the Kujukuri Beach in Boso Peninsula.  One of those, decided to run the Kujukuri Ichinomiya Ohara bicycle road of 33 kilometers in total length.  we started from Kazusa-ichinomiyami Station on JR Sotobo line and planned to run along the seaside coastline, however the cycling road is maintained in the inland and We can not look at the sea.  We often go to the beach which can be seen from the bicycle road and admire the sea.

今回は、大宮市に住む友人の家から千葉に向かうことにした。房総半島・九十九里浜沿いには2つのサイクリングロードがある。そのひとつ、全長33㎞の九十九里一宮大原自転車道を走ることにした。外房線上総一ノ宮駅からアプローチし、海沿いの長い海岸線を北上するイメージだったが、残念ながら、サイクリングロードは内陸側に整備されていて、海を眺めながらのご機嫌なポタとはいかない。たまに自転車道から見える海水浴場から海岸に行き、大海原を眺める。



Early in the morning, We left Omiya Station of Big terminal, and headed to Minami-Urawa Station by a local train to Tokyo Station.  We put the bicycle at the head of the train, however the inside is gradually crowded.  Change trains from Minami-Urawa Station to Musashino Line and get to Nishi-Funabashi Station, arrive at Chiba Station by Sobu Line, and finally feel relieved to have passed the rush hours.  (Photo / Minami-Urawa Station, home of Musashino Line)
早朝、 まだ人がまばらなビッグターミナル大宮駅を発ち、東京駅行きの普通列車に乗車し南浦和駅に向かう。先頭部分に自転車を置くが、徐々に混雑し始めた。南浦和駅から武蔵野線に乗り換え西船橋駅へ、再び乗り換え中央総武線で千葉駅に着き、やっとラッシュ区間を抜けたと安堵した。(写真/南浦和駅、武蔵野線のホーム)



When going straight to the east from Kazusa-Ichinomiya Station, it is about 2 kilometers and arrives at the Kujukuri Beach.  Located along the Kujukuri Beach, we will find the Kujukuri Ichinomiya Ohara bicycle road, however as it is, We will enter the Ichinomiya Beach.  The weather is bad and the leaden skies and the ocean spread.  The waves are high and commonplace view.  The beach house has been dismantled, as it tells the end of summer.  In front of them, We run along the coast for a while.
上総一ノ宮駅から東に真っ直ぐ進むと約2㎞で九十九里の海辺に着く。自動車道の九十九里ビーチライン沿いに九十九里一宮大原自転車道を発見するが、そのまま突っ切り、一宮海水浴場に出る。天気が悪く鉛色の空と海原が広がる。波が高く荒々しい殺伐とした光景だ。夏の終わりを告げるように、海の家が解体されている。それら一切を受け止めながら、しばらく海岸沿いに進むことにする。



The beach was interrupted, so We went back to the bicycle road.  However, as We cross the Ichinomiyagawa River, the Kujukurihama toll road runs between the bicycle road and the coast, and the ocean can not be seen at all.  Soon, It passes under the toll road and even if the bicycle road becomes the sea side, there is trees used as a windbreak this time, and the sea can not be seen still.  Every time We cross the road to the beach, We go to the seaside, however We can not enjoy the Kujukuri Ichinomiya Ohara bicycle road.
海水浴場が途切れ、自転車道に戻る。しかし一宮川を渡ると、九十九里浜有料道路が自転車道と海岸の間に立ちはばかり、海は全く見えない。やがて有料道路をくぐり、海側に自転車道がきても、今度は防風林が邪魔をして、やはり海を見ることができない。たまに海水浴場に続く道と交差するたびに、海辺に出るくらいしかできず、九十九里浜を堪能することができない。



In the vicinity of Katagai fishing port, the Kujukuri Ichinomiya Ohara bicycle road ends.  We go into the inland and go north along the prefectural road for a while, however never signs of Naruto Station do not come out.  In the vicinity, asked the way old man who was harvesting the rice.  It seems that it has gone too far.  There is no sign in the vicinity of this, again ask for the way to Naruto Station.  It ran approximately 38 kilometers from Kazusa-Ichinomiya Station to Naruto Station by bicycle.  From Naruto Station, take a local train to Choshi Station on the JR Sobu Line (photo).
片貝漁港付近で九十九里一宮大原自転車道は終わる。内陸部に入り、しばらく県道沿いに北上するが、いつまで経っても、成東駅の看板が出てこない。近くで稲刈りをしていたお年寄りに道を尋ねる。どうやら行き過ぎたようだ。この付近は看板などの標識がなく、成東駅まで着くのに、この後2人もの人に道を訊くことになる。上総一ノ宮駅から成東駅までの自走距離は約38㎞。成東駅からは総武本線銚子行きの普通電車に乗る(写真)。



At the end of platform 2 and 3 at Choshi Station , there is a platform of Choshi Electric Railroad, and the railroad vehicles is stopped.  The train car body has been wrapped with an original animated character.  Choshi Electric Railway was opened in 1923.  10 stops from Choshi Station to the end gate of Togawa Station. The distance is short as 6.4 kilometers.  In recent years, Choshi's specialty "Nure-senbei = Wet Rice Cracker" is released at Inubou Station is calling the topic.

銚子駅2・3番線の端に、第三セクターで運営する銚子電気鉄道のホームがあり、1両の車両が停まっている。車体にはオリジナルのアニメキャラクターのラッピングが施されている。銚子電気鉄道は、大正12年(1923)開通。銚子から終点の外川駅まで10駅。営業距離は6.4㎞と短い。近年では、銚子の名物「ぬれ煎餅」を犬吠駅で発売し話題を呼んでいる。



Get off at Inubou Station and go to the "Observatory which the earth looks round" on the nearby hill.  It is true that the horizon is not a straight line but looks like a curve from the observation deck, is this an illusion of the eye ?  (Photo on the right is the cliff of 'Byoubugaura')
犬吠駅で下車し、近くの高台を上った場所にある「地球の丸く見える丘展望館」に行く。確かに展望台からは地平線が直線でなく曲線に見えたが、これは果たして目の錯覚なのだろうか。それとも先入観なのかと遠い水平線に問いかけてみる。(写真右奥は「塀風ヶ浦」の絶壁)

Pottering report of a bicycle in Japan
