Pottering of a bicycle in CHIBA & MITO. Vol.2

Inubozaki Lighthouse was built under the design and supervision of British lighthouse technician and was lit in 1874.  There is no elevator, and it is necessary to take the stairs of 99 steps which are said to have originated from Kujukuri Beach.  There is a height of 52 meters from sea surface, and it will light up to 19.5 nautical miles (about 35 kilometers).  (Photo / Inubozaki Lighthouse seeing from Kimigahama Beach)

We entered Choshi City from the coastal road.  It arrives at Choshi Station when passing in front of a famous soy sauce maker.  The station building was originally a hangar at the airport so the ceiling is high.  From Inubou Station to Choshi Station, the distance We rode a bicycle is about 10 kilometers.  In the weather forecast, rain was forecast, however it was never caught in the rain.  We checked into a hotel in front of the station and first relax by taking a shower.  After that, we drank sake happily in the tavern near the station.

Yesterday, when We saw from the observatory of the Inubouzaki, the Tone River was too big and We misunderstood it as a cove somewhere.  So, the estuary is so wide.  Tone River is the second longest 322 kilometers river in Japan. Flowing from the Minakami Town in Gunma Prefecture to the Pacific Ocean through Kanto Plain, originating from the Echigo Mountain Range.  Cycling roads run side by side along the Tone River.  (Photo / Choshi Ohashi Bridge, the most downstream in Tone River)

We leave Choshi Station early in the morning, and take the JR Sobu Line and JR Narita Lines to Sawara Station (photo) changed.  The town of Sawara, famous for it is Suigo zone, retains the townscape of the Edo period.  The shop along the Ono River is not open yet, however it will be seen by tourists get on the boat during the day.

Sawara is a place where lived in Mr. Tadataka Ino who surveyed all over the country to draw a map of Japan according to an order from the Edo shogunate, there is a memorial hall.  Tadataka went to Edo after the age of 50 and studied Western astronomy, Western mathematics, astronomical observation, calendar, etc, and accomplished this big project by closing the life of 71 years old.

It reaches the Tone River when the Suigo zone is run by the bicycle as it is.  Because there is a cycling road on the right bank of Tone River, it runs as it is to Katori station.  We ride a bicycle slowly according to the flow of a leisurely river.  Unfortunately, the river is not so beautiful.  The distance We ran a bicycle from Sawara Station to Katori Station was about 7 kilometers.

From Katori Station, We will take the Kashima Line with a total length of 17.4 kilometers.  It crosses the Tone River, and wants Kasumigaura, and arrives at Kashima Jingu Station when passing through the side of Kitaura. Transfer from the station to Kashima Rinkai Railway Oarai Kashima Line.  The Kashima Rinkai Railway was opened in 1969 as a land transport in the industrial area, funded by Japanese National Railways, Ibaraki Prefecture, and corporations.  The Kashima Rinkai line extending south from Kashima football stadium station is mainly cargo transport.  The Oarai Kashima Line line connecting the Mito station from the station is used for local commuting and commuting as a regional route of 53 kilometers.

The train stops only when there is a match, passes through the Kashima Soccer Stadium Station.  Formally, this is the JR Kashima line until this station, from here to the Mito Station will become the Kashima Rinkai Railway Oarai Kashima Line.  We look at the view from the window, I can see the football stadium (photo left).  It is the home stadium of Kashima Antlers of the J League team.
